Mael Coluim (Malcolm I) Mac Domnall King Of Scots
- 954-
Name Mael Coluim (Malcolm I) Mac Domnall King Of Scots [1, 2] Gender Male Died 954 [1] Notes - Malcolm became King of Scots in 943, when his predecessor Constantine II abdicated and retired to a monastery. Malcolm seems to have enjoyed friendly relations with his English neighbours. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that King Edmund of England granted Strathclyde to Malcolm in 945 after ravaging it, and whatever agreement they entered into was renewed by Edmund's brother and successor Eadred in 946. The upshot of this agreement seems to have been cooperation with the English in wresting Northumbria from Viking rule. Malcolm invaded Northumbria twice; in 950, when the Scottish Chronicle triumphantly recorded a victory, and 952, when allied forces of Scots, English, and Britons were defeated. Malcolm was killed by his own subjects in 954, and succeeded by his second cousin Indulf.
